Matthew Byrd is an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University School of Nursing. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi College in 2014, his Master of Science in Nursing as a Nurse Educator from University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2022, and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing. Byrd’s nursing practice has primarily been in adult cardiac critical care and he holds national board certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Byrd is a member of the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. He has experience as an educator in both accelerated and traditional pre-licensure programs in the classroom, clinical, and laboratory settings. Byrd strives to promote critical thinking in nursing students so they’re prepared to advocate for patients and challenge health care systems to improve patient outcomes.
